Casademont Zaragoza announced on Monday the signing of Roberts Blumbergs and, at the same time, confirmed that Emir Sulejmanovic has signed with Joventut Badalona until June 30, 2028.
What does Blumbergs bring?
Blumbergs, standing 2.08 m, arrives after a strong ACB season where he averaged 9.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. His ability to protect the paint and run pick‑and‑rolls makes him an immediate interior boost for Zaragoza. Coach Porfirio López expects the Lithuanian to add energy on the boards and improve the team’s perimeter defense.
Why did Sulejmanovic leave?
Born in Srebrenica on 13/07/1995, Sulejmanovic was a key player for Zaragoza last season, posting 11.3 points and 7.0 rebounds in 28 minutes. After triggering his release clause with Unicaja, the Bosnian chose to return to the ACB with Joventut, signing a two‑year deal. The Catalan club described the forward‑center as “defensively intense, mobile enough to run the floor and offensively capable both in the post and from the outside”.
How does this affect Zaragoza’s project?
Sulejmanovic’s departure creates a gap in the paint, but Blumbergs’ arrival and the recent signing of Caleb Homesley as a perimeter shooter balance the roster. Zaragoza aims to strengthen its interior play while keeping the versatility that kept them near the playoff spots last year. The club also renewed Sergi García, who will continue to lead the three‑point line.
What’s next for the team?
With the transfer window closed, Zaragoza prepares for the regular season start on September 22. Practices will focus on integrating Blumbergs into the offensive system and adjusting the collective defense without Sulejmanovic. Fans hope the mix of experience and youth will allow the squad to compete for a Liga Endesa playoff spot and eventually the Copa del Rey.
